Crowns

Sometimes referred to as "caps," crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully covers that portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, composite fillings/inlays/onlays are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth's new outer surface.

Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth with oversized and/or old fillings, to eliminate senstivity from "cracked" teeth, and as a means by which to enhance the cosmetic appearance of teeth. Crowns can be made out of porcelain/ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both, but with recent advances in dental ceramics, most crowns at Bastien Dental are made from strong, cost-friendly, and attractive all-ceramic products.

Expect to achieve approximately 8-15 years of use from of a crown.  However, if there is a structural failure of a crown we placed within 8 years of placement, you are covered by the Bastien Dental Crown & Bridge Warranty:  we will replace, at no cost, any crown that fails in the first 2 years, and we will pro-rate a replacement, from the day of delivery, of any crown that has a structural failure (large chip or complete fracture) up to 8 years.  This is an exceptional and unusual guaranty in dentistry, but we believe in our work, and believe in giving you peace of mind.
